Terrorists strike Mumbai, India

TERRORISTS MURDER UNARMED CITIZENS - If you find yourself in a gunfight without a gun you'll lose every time. Ask the survivors of the recent terrorist attack in Mumbai, India that resulted in over 195 innocent, men, women and children being slaughtered by a handful of scumbag terrorists, the helplessness of being unarmed and unable to defend themselves. The armed terrorists didn't just shoot their hapless victims, they blew them up with hand grenades, tortured several to death, and beheaded others. Six Americans were murdered along with five Jews. Unfortunately, many of the police in the area were unarmed. Had there been even a few armed individuals among the victims in the locations of the attacks the outcome may have been different and the loss of innocent life much less.

Over 239 people were injured in the attack including twenty-two foreigners. The terrorists were looking for Americans, British and Jews but intended to kill as many people as they could before being killed themselves. All but one of the 10 terrorists were killed by India commandos.

The terrorists were reportedly from Pakistan and linked with al-Qaida and the Taliban. Some experts believe the attack was in retaliation for ongoing U.S. and British military operations against Islamic targets in Pakistan.

President Bush pledged full support to India and said: "The killers who struck are brutal and violent, but terror will not have the final word." I hope he's right.

What should be done is to find out where the terrorists came from and target those locations with air and ground attacks and wipe them out. With less than two months left in office and the Obama "cut and run" administration gearing up to takeover, I doubt that Bush will take any military action. The British won't do much either. At the best a flurry of diplomatic efforts from the U.S. and Britain. All talk and no action. It will be up to Israel to deal with these scumbags. I predict that Israel will take military action against those responsible for the attack, especially since Jews were murdered.

In the meantime let's hope that cooler heads prevail in India and Pakistan and not use the Mumbai attack to start another shooting duel across their borders.

The question was raised as to how a small force of 10 terrorists could inflict such a large number of casualties. Not too hard to answer if 10 heavily armed individuals attack a virtually unarmed group of mostly innocent civilians. In India, and most other countries, citizens don't have a Second Amendment Right that allows citizens "to keep and bear arms" as Americans do.

In America most states have laws that allow citizens to carry concealed handguns. Americans are a well armed society with over 200 million firearms in the hands of over 90 million citizens. The U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled, for the first time, that the right to keep and bear arms is an individual, fundamental right. Armed terrorists would surely come up against armed citizens if they tried a "Mumbai attack" in the United States. Not only is there an armed citizenry in America law enforcement is heavily armed and equipped to deal with such attacks. U.S. military forces would also respond to terrorist attacks.

Despite all the gains Americans have had in defense of the Second Amendment Right to keep and bear arms, there are those who seek to ban the private ownership of firearms. The gun grabbers, who have a great deal of support in the US Congress, mostly liberal, socialist Democrats, continue to call for more and more gun control that will only serve to disarm, decent, law-abiding gun owners at their peril. Unfortunately, these same Democrats now have a champion, soon to be president, in the White House that shares their view.

Let's face it folks more gun control, with over 20,000 such laws on the books that have not reduced crime or it's rate of increase, will only serve to make it tough on gun owners to protect themselves, their families and property from well armed criminals who ignore the law. In fact the one thing criminals fear most is that their next victim may be armed. I'm sure terrorists also realize that, unlike the victims in Mumbai, Americans are well armed and will shoot back.

George Washington our first president said it best: "Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself." That's as true today as it was then.
